Meet Chris Mayson – The Newest Member of the SJGA Board of Directors

Chris Mayson
Chris was born and raised in England – his love affair with golf started at the age of eight becoming the youngest player in British Isles to achieve a hole in one. His notoriety grew and he quickly made strides on the junior circuit representing England in golf tournaments throughout the world. Chris received English Junior Golf’s highest honor being chosen to captain England Schools Team at the European Championships.

College recruiters across the United States became aware of Chris’ accomplishments around the world junior golf circuits. Northwestern and Tennessee were among the dozen golf programs that offered scholarships. He eventually decided on Purdue University. Chris became the first ever Big Ten freshman of the year for the Boilermakers. His college career was highlighted by receiving All Big Ten individual honors. Chris lead Purdue to 2 NCAA Central Regional Titles and a 7th place finish in the 2002 NCAA Championships.

After Graduating with a degree in Sports Psychology, Chris moved to San Diego to realize his goal of becoming a professional golfer. He had a successful first couple of years playing over nine different tours throughout the world with over twenty top ten finishes to his name. Injury cut his career short in 2006, and Chris now uses his extensive experience to help golfers reach their true potential. He is currently studying for his Masters in Sports Psychology. Patron Program and private donations to help fund SJGA

A unique Patron Program tied to the CLUB CORP SIGNITURE GOLD membership (by invitation only) and private donations will help fund the SJGA. CEO Steve Simons is implementing this program to eliminate passing the costs of association memberships to parents for players to enter a qualifying event or our Grand Finale. Participation at a qualifier or  the SJGA Grand Finale begins with the High School players endorsement from his coach or principal. By integrating local associations and tours to award achievement – the SJGA can directly qualify deserving players into a major junior event without requiring additional fees.
